WANER a.k.a Erwan Roy, has been rocking the Paris Underground for the past 20 years, and has been a dedicated servant to House Music in the process. He is the President and driving force behind one of Paris’s longest running Web Radio Shows “Electroset”, on www.wafradio.com, which has been broadcasting Minimal Tech House for over 10 years. The station has featured many Top DJ’s, Live Acts and Visual Artists playing the circuit in clubs all over Paris and the rest of France.

DJ’s such as Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, DJ Sneak, Laurent Garnier and Daft Punk have been a big influence on Waner’s Musical Style, and since forming WAF Radio, he has been broadcasting House Music to the ears of the many dedicated listeners 5 times a week, every week for the last decade. He is also the Promoter and Resident DJ for After Soundays @ 3 E’scales, one of Paris’s many after party venues, and a favourite with many of the cities Top DJ’s and Influential Clubbers.

Waner started out his DJ career in the late 1995’s, playing at various bars and clubs around Paris, with an affection for playing in the smaller rooms, where he felt more of an underground vibe, and more at one with his public. As a DJ he shows an incredible capacity to understand the crowd and with an ear to drop what is appropriate for the Dance Floor at a particular time, Waner is truly the right man for the Minimal Techno and Electro House enthusiasts.

He has played at many top nights around Paris which include DJ Sets at (Vaults St-Honoured, Cithea Nova, Concorde Atlantic, The Alternative, The Scene, Luna, Batofar, New Morning, Uncontrollable Cabinet, Techno Parade, Nouveau Casino, Gravel Plateau, Shannon Pub, Maroquinerie, Café on the Beach, Folie's Pigalle, Coffee Leopard, 3rd Place, Anything, Tender Offer, Babalu, Coffee K, Berimbar, Show Put, Mezzanine of Alcazar, Studio 287, Caves St Sabin and L’ Opus Café.

In early 2009, he was selected to headline the FTV (Fashion TV) Parties in Mumbai and Calcutta (INDIA), and also performed at ZENZI, one of India’s leading electronic music venues. Also, this year has seen Waner performing at the Nuits Sonores Festival, in Lyon (France), one of Europe’s largest Electronic Music Festivals as part of the Mosquito Massala Spring Tour 2009.

2008, also as part of the Mosquito Massala Collective (MoM), he performed at The Woodstower Festival in a natural park in the Rhone Alps region, and The Visual Invaders Festival, up in the mountains in the French Alps, close to the Swiss/Italian border.

Not only is he an accomplished DJ, but Erwan Roy a.k.a Waner has for the last two years been releasing his creative flair by taking on the responsibility of being the second VJ within the Mosquito Massala Collective (MoM), and alongside Viktor Furiani, has helped create and put together large-scale installations in clubs and festivals across France.

In the short time that Waner has been VJ’ing, he has secured VJ residences at The Redline Parties in Paris and has been supporting various collectives all over France, such as The Scratch Bandit Crew for the Battle of the DJ’s 2009, The Galaticut Crew (Lyon) and Keep on Smiling Collective (KoS) from Paris, as well as providing Visuals for the WAF Radio Shows.

His inspirations come in many forms, from experimental cinema and architecture, to graffiti and tribal influences from across the globe. He recently worked on a large-scale installation with The Mosquito Massala Collective at the Mine Museum in St Etienne, where he worked alongside Frederick Kahn, an accomplished music conductor and producer from Lyon (France).

Erwan Roy is the engine that keeps the MoM collective pushing forward, and with the many skills that he brings to the table and his never ending multi-tasking from DJ’ing and VJ’ing, to sound and visual installations, to designing flyers, controlling the facebook groups and maintaining the websites, to running a radio station, Waner is without a doubt the team player any collective would be proud to have in their ranks.

A DJ, a restaurateur and a journalist. Hardly the most potent combination. Yet, since it rolled out in May last year, the Bombay Elektrik Projekt – set up by three young music entrepreneurs who wanted to go beyond mouthing obscenities at the ordinariness of the nightlife scene – has turned into one of the most exciting artist-focussed initiatives to be launched in recent times. Pramod Sippy, a cutting-edge house music DJ who has gigged across the country for 12 years, Sudeip Nair, an IHM Aurangabad graduate who set up concept-based restaurants across the country and Kenneth Lobo, a journalist who has written extensively about the arts and culture scene for leading dailies and magazines form the core of the initiative.

The collective reaches out to venue owners and promoters by taking up club residencies: they instigate change by urging club owners and promoters to consider unique concepts, positioning and branding by recruiting the right artists, and using these differentiators to get ahead in the entertainment business as well as making a name on the arts & culture scene. Some of their tailor-makes concepts include:

Monday Shorts: A fortnightly screening of locally made short films at the Mumbai Times Café in Bandra, where audiences and the filmmakers interact to create an elektrik vibe. The aim of Monday Shorts is to create a networking hub for creative minds where writers, directors, cinematographers as well as financiers meet to discuss ideas and business. And create an alternative experience of a night out for audiences.

Slam Poets: An opportunity to watch talented local poets as they go nose-to-nose while a live, whooping and cheering audience gets rolling with them. A noisy, heartfelt, rowdy, and sometimes, political session of poetry that always gets the crowd going. Language, no bar. The only premise is original work.

Concept-based DJ Nights at bars and clubs across the country featuring some of the country’s leading talents like DJ Arnold (an undiscovered gem of the Mumbai dance music scene with more than 12 international releases, with another dozen slated for this year); DJ Russell (an old timer whose scored one of the biggest international house music singles releases with Juno records this year); DJ Murthy (one of the pioneers of the house music scene in Hyderabad for over a decade now), among several others.

Bombay Elektrik Projekt is also actively involved in local community-based exercises: they organise workshops on dance, music and art at college festivals, participate in youth-based festivals like Youth Lead held in Bandra on April 4th and at cultural festivals like the Kala Ghoda and Mumbai Festival.

Since January this year, they’ve completed more than 50 events (that’s an event every three days). This excludes the first of its kind ten-day Beer and Electronic Music festival organised in September last year at the Mumbai Times Cafe in Bandra. All of this reaffirms their determination to focus on and prosper artists: DJs, musicians, bands, percussionists, visual jockeys, film makers and poets - regardless of genre

It was 9 o'clock in the morning and the crowd refused to leave... This was often the scene when Johnny Deep took to the decks in Tokyo. His early sets were a seduction in deep house, but later on, he was well known to whip a crowd into a frenzie with his blazing style of deep tech funky beats.

ohnny was born in the UK but is no stranger to Australian shores. His technical skills were confirmed in 2001 when he was the finalist in the DJ EXPO 2001 DJ Competition. Since then,he has made appearances at some of Sydney's cooler clubs and has hosted his own club events including 'Audio Station' at the World Niteclub. This event showcased some of Sydney's finest DJ and live talent in 3 rooms with Johnny mixing it up in the main room.

With Johnny's new found love for the minimal sound, 2007 and 2008 saw him excite clubbers in no less than 4 cities, Madrid, Barcelona, Bangkok and Mumbai.

2009 is set to be an exciting year for Johnny in India. He has recently completed a DJ residency at Taj's club Wink with guest appearances at Aurus and Henry Thames. In Addition, he also rocked Chennai with 2 exclusive performances at Blend and Leather Bar.

As exciting is Johnny's continued efforts in the studio as he muscles his way towards his debut double EP release on Fairlads records due out later this year. And from what i've heard, The music will continue to epitomise Johnny's commitment to Deepness....

iStore by Reliance Digital launches its second store in as many days, in association with Bombay Elektrik Projekt, with a never-before funk-ed up combination of music, visuals and live sound editing.

Groove Junktion, an assemblage of some of Pune’s most talented sessions musicians will get the show on the road, with a heady mix of their anthems.

While the band plays, maverick photographer, Rahul Deshpande (he’s done the rounds of fashion weeks in New York) will snap images of listeners, the musicians and various other moments frozen in his mind’s eye. All of these will be processed live to an enthralled crowd on a screen, showcasing the skills of the Macbook.

Simultaneously, Ayan De, sound executioner supreme, who has worked with no less than 20 artists since July this year, will process Groove Junktion’s sounds, displaying the ability of the Mac to not just process images but sound as well.

It promises to be wicked and fun. Come by early.

ABOUT GROOVE JUNKTION

Sanjay Jack Barde:
With over 20 years of professional experience, Jack has been a session drummer/vocalist with artists as varied as Gary Lawyer, Leslie Lewis, Joe Alwares and several others. Jack has also been a studio vocalist having lent his voice for jingles such as Wagon R, Exide, DHL, ICC and vocal parts in several films including Chalte Chalte, KKKG and Devdas.

He has also acted in the acclaimed Dalip Tahil production of Man Of La Mancha alongside Dalip Tahil, Suneeta Rao and others.

In Pune, Jack performs with Jukebox, as well as his own act - Takabanda. He is also a music tutor.

Leo Mathew:
One of the more dependable and solid rock keyboard players from among the very small community of keyboardists in Pune. Leo has been on the scene for over eight years freelancing with various bands such as Strange Brew, Jukebox and legends like Derek Julien and Roger Dragonette.

Ritesh Ohol:
An experienced guitarist, Ritesh has played with several Pune bands over the years. As a session player, he has supported Manasi Scott and more recently - Sonu Nigam. Currently he is with RLA of Pune. Ritesh is a thorough professional with an extremely affable nature.

Jackie Panicker:
Over the years, Jackie has played bass with several different line ups, but he his known mainly as the bassist for Strange Brew. A corporate coach by day, you can catch Jackie grooving with his bass onstage at night with diverse acts playing everything from Jazz Rock, Folk, Fusion, etc. He has a genuine love and enthusiasm for music…and the bass.

Ayan De profile

He’s worked on “music on the go” project. His contribution extends beyond the studio as De has contributed eight articles, written and published, in Navi Mumbai times and Chembur Ghatkopar Plus on audio work. He’s also done live sound work was done at The Unwind Centre Chennai and The Hard Rock cafe Mumbai.

Since July 2009, he has recorded and worked with artists like Descarta, Rosemary, SPOOK, Gowri, Goddess Gagged, Vaudville, Inari Kolu, Formidabel, Count Tree, Sheldon, Bangera/Joshua Generation, Devoid, Fat man's entourage, in the light years, Lunia, Resonance and Eclipse.

Uri has been on a musical journey since as long as he can remember, and his knowledge and experience of most musical genre's puts him in an advantageous position for satisfying any crowd.

Co-Founder of the "AlienAsian Collective" and "DualKore", Uri continues to push the boundaries of DJ’ing that little bit further. His DJ Sets comprise of fusing Classical Indian, Middle Eastern, Ethnic and Tribal sounds with 21st Century Electronic Music. Live Classical Flute, Tabla Percussion and Turntablist tricks, Mr Manali creates a real melting pot of urban street music with cultural influences from across the globe.
2009 sees The Mosquito Massala Collective (MoM), performing tirelessly, starting in May where they will be touring France, playing in Paris, Lyon, St Etienne and Nimes, with the highlight being a 2 Hour Set @ The Nuits Sonores Festival in Lyon, one of the biggest Electronic Music Festivals in Europe, supporting the likes of Josh Wink, Carl Craig, Ricardo Villalobos, The Proxy, Erol Elkan, and The Drummattic Twins.
The Uri and the MoM crew will the be doing various gigs and web radio shows in London & Leicester (UK) and also playing at The Outlook Festival in Croatia over September, and then in October will be heading to India for a 6 month tour which will end in March 2010.

Thats how Ed Aka Edsel Fernandeswould describe his passion for music. At an early age Ed was introduced to music, he played the piano for a couple of years,then moved on to play the drums for the next four years. When Edsel started high school, he took up a part time job as an assistant sound engineer. He quickly picked up the tricks of the trade and was managing big events on his own. This was also where he got his first feel of dj'ing and there was no turning back.
With the knowledge and insight that Edsel acquired, he and a bunch of friends got together and started organising private parties and events. Edsel was well into the scene back home and was tied up with some of the biggest names in the underground culture.

After coming to Dubai, Edsel met up with Dj Dan who shared his dj'ing skills and musical influences with Edsel, who absorbed this new sound like a sponge.
Ed played alongside the likes ofFrank Lobber (Cocoon Recordings, Nummer records) and Jamie Jones( Freak N Chic, CrosstownRebels)the tech house Mistro.Apart From Playingfor ahost of club nights in Dubaihe also co-foundedSTATIC a night dedicated to electronic dance music.

Arijit Datta is a singer/songwriter from Mumbai. After years of playing with various bands, Arijit found his best form of expression was in Hindi so he formed a band five months ago called “Airport.” Airport allows him to write and perform compositions that are of his own personal design influenced by various music styles particularly jazz and pop rock.

Airport consists of Arijit Datta on vocals and guitar, Vinay Lobo on lead guitar (also from The Vinyls/Nikhil D’souza), Sidd Coutto on drums (also from Zero/Helga’s Fun Castle/Ankur Tewari and the Ghalat Family/Tough on Tobacco), and Amit Ahuja on bass (also from Sridhar/Thayil,Daniel Pohnke) and they’re 1st performance is at Daddy’s WindSong Wednesdays @ il terrazzo on 9th December.

Dave Sharma is an internationally-renowed percussionist and producer and a member of NYC's Sub Swara crew. Dave's worked with an extremely diverse list of artists, including international tours with Moby, Sub Swara, Delhi 2 Dublin and DJ Rekha; recording sessions with Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Dayne, and jazz pioneer Guillermo Brown; and performances with Cheap Trick, Zila Khan (daughter of Ud. Vilayat Khan), Kailash Kher and many, many others. He was a lead percussionist in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Bombay Dreams," and also worked on Disney's Tarzan on Broadway.

As an award-winning producer and remixer, Dave has recorded with Universal artists the Rapture, and is a member of electronic group Sub Swara, whos 2008 debut LP Coup d’Yah garnered praise from the BBC, TimeOut NY, Metro UK, Rolling Stone, and XLR8R magazine. As an educator, Dave has taught with the Weill Institute at Carnegie Hall, the Mark Morris Dance Company, and through Midori and Friends, and has lectured at NYU, Columbia University, and Dartmouth University.

Whirling Kalapas is the acoustic-ish band created by Mahesh Tinaikar and Uday Benegal, the guitar player and singer of the trailblazing rock band Indus Creed.

Jai Row Kavi, Kenneth Rebello and Sankarshan ‘Shanks’ Kini complete the outfit. Their music is a whimsical take on an array of things—past hits, new songs, obscure tunes by artists they really like, and then some...

With Indus Creed, Uday and Mahesh toured the world, including the USSR, the Middle East and Peter Gabriel’s WOMAD festival in Reading (UK), to name a few. They also won a bunch of awards, including an Asia-wide MTV Video Music Award for their song “Pretty Child,” and shared the stage with Bon Jovi, playing to more than 40,000 people in Bombay.

In 1996, MTV flew down Guns ’N Roses guitarist Slash to play live with Indus Creed in Bangalore. They were also the first non-Western band about whom MTV produced a “Rockumentary.”

Uday moved to New York in 1999, where he started his multiculti Indo–rock and funk band Alms For Shanti. AFS scorched through NYC’s club circuit and played at numerous festivals and clubs in North America and India. Uday moved back to Bombay in 2008.

Whirling Kalapas was born in 2009 when Uday and Mahesh regrouped after more than 10 years. The duo that wrote such seminal hits as “Rock ‘n’ Roll Renegade” and “Pretty Child” are back. The music scene in India will be the richer for it.
